Fresh, Local Foods

As the demand for fresh local foods increases not only in the senior
community, but across all age groups, senior-dining has responded with
additional events and programs to meet this need.

More and more we are hearing about schools introducing healthier foods, the
popularity of Farmers Markets around the country and small home gardens,
reminisce of victory gardens, as well as community gardens becoming the
norm.

Chef Higgins has excepted the challenge and working with OSU Extension,
Knox County
, and the Knox County Local Food Council is using the
Homegrown guide to help demonstrate why and how to use local fresh foods
at Schools, Farmer’s Markets and participated in 2010 at the Ohio State
Fair's Heartland Cuisine program - a cooperative effort between The Ohio
Department Of Agriculture
, Ohio’s commodity associations, Ohio
agribusinesses and Ohio’s premier chefs using Ohio Proud products.

“You know your doctor, you know your dentist. Why not know your
farmer”

Senior- dining welcomes all inquires and will customize presentations,
demonstrations, or meal functions for your school, church or organization.
